Growing up in Oxnard, I’ve volunteered each year in the California Strawberry Festival when I was in High School. But it wasn’t until this year did i know that there is a “Crazy Hat Contest” Of course, The Blogging Babes and I had to join and compete in this contest. This contest did not only take us out of our comfort zone (we had to walk and pose across the stage) but it also helped us express our creativity. Although we didn’t win the first prize, we all had so much fun creating our hats! I made a cake on top of my hat since I used to always volunteer in strawberry short cake tent and my vision for my cake is real. Haha. For my outfit, I created a free flowing top with a long skirt and a side slit. I wanted to make sure that my outfit was simple and that it complemented my obnoxious hat. What do you guys think of this look? Have you gone to any festivals lately?

Peach Perfect

Peach is one of the top 10 colors for Spring 2016. It’s fresh, feminine and playful. I love that it’s also versatile and it goes with most skin tones. I actually made this sweet heart tube dress for one of my friend’s wedding. But since I finally got a chance to go to Disneyland recently, I decided to wear it since it makes me feel like a princess. I added a bow at the back to also give it a vintage vibe. What do you think of this look?

The long awaited night for Beyonce’s Formation World Tour finally arrived in Los Angeles yesterday. I decided to make a hanky slip dress inspired by the  color of the dress that she wore in her music video, “Hold Up.” I wanted to bring some hot sauce in my bag but I was afraid the security won’t let me in. Haha. I was fortunate enough to have one of my girl friends warn me that we weren’t allowed to any bring bags inside unless it’s clear and a size of a ziplock bag. A lot of people were upset that they weren’t fully warned about this. Walking in the stadium, there were a few protestors that has a “FORGIVE JAY-Z” and “EVERYBODY MAKES MISTAKES” signs. Thought this was pretty hilarious and the whole controversy between the Beyonce and Jay-Z cheating rumors has been actually working well for her album. I also noticed that Beyonce has gained a whole other range of followers that can relate to her album’s message of agony, betrayal and jealousy. Beyonce opened up her concert with the ever powerful song “Formation.” She sang a few more songs from her Lemonade album like “Daddy Lessons”, “Freedom”, “Don’t Hurt Yourself” and “Sorry”. Her visual album was also presented the whole night and she mixed a lot of her old songs together. One of my favorite scenes from her concert was when she stomped around, danced and passionately sang on stage with water.  I love that she ended her concert thanking God and her fans for everything that she has now. She also encouraged everyone to keep working hard for their dreams and that she was once like us and we could be where she’s at now if we keep striving for our goals. Last night was definitely a night to remember. I’m currently experiencing my Beyonce withdrawals as of now and yes, call me crazy but i may or may not be thinking of going to her Dodger Stadium Concert this fall.

You don’t have to know me very well to figure out that I’m not the healthiest person alive. I absolutely love junk food, fries, pizza, fried chicken and ice cream. It wasn’t until recently that i realized that i felt like i really need to start making healthier choices as I’ve entered my mid twenties; for I no longer have the same metabolism of a 22 year old college student.

Join me in my journey as I struggle to eating healthy food, work my way out of toning my body, go to different fit events, learn how to balance my life between family, friends, fitness, work and blogging.

Tonight I went to my first fitness event called “Girls Night Out” by New Balance. We had the ever beautiful, soul inspiring, Shay Kostabi as our host and instructor for the night. She started our work out with her speech about “why we sweat” —- that we sweat for the struggle, strength, grace and victory. We sweat because it makes us happy, beautiful and glow. We sweat because that’s how we grow and learn together. Shay lead us into a fun, powerful, dance work out and through the 45 minute session, I definitely had my moment of struggle and it was very loud, screaming in my head to give up. But there was also that still, small voice of victory that I can do it— to not give in. So thankful for Shay for pushing us and encouraging us to keep going.

My girlfriends and I got to take pictures in the photo boot, drawn into caricatures, got a free gift bag with goodies and a very yummy treat, acai bowl for the rest of the night. There will be another Girls Night Out New Balance Event event in Santa Monica on May 19. Grab your squad and join us as we sweat and sparkle together!

Disneyland is one of my favorite places in the world and since I’ve been swamped with going to lots of events lately, I haven’t gotten a chance to use my annual pass. I told myself that I’m going to try to make sure to come more often and make my own outfits as well. Therefore, you’ll be seeing a few disney posts dressed up as few of my favorite characters for the upcoming months. So stay tuned!

I had to make my first disney outfit dedicated to none other than Minnie Mouse since it all started with a mouse! 😉 What do you guys think? I just made a simple circle skirt and a crop top with an elastic open back. If there are other characters you would like me to dress up as, definitely let me know.

Happy Tuesday and stay magical!

XOXO,

Joy

As summer approaches, I had to haunt the infamous Victoria Beach in Orange County. For this shoot, I made a baby doll with a deep V slip dress with ruffles. What do you think about this look? Do you have your summer outfits yet?
