The Scenario Studio

Need new instagram photos for you squad? Or a new profile picture? Taking amazing photos has never become so easy with the newest pop-up museum in la la land. The Scenario Studios has been hired by celebrities and Fortune-500 companies to produce elaborate private photo shoots at their parties and events. The only guests who were able to enjoy a Scenario photo shoot had to be connected to a celebrity or large company, but now, for the first time ever, the public is invited to join the likes of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Kanye West, the Kardashians, and over 100 other celebrities who have experienced Scenario on set.

Now, for the first time ever, the “most expensive photo booth in the world” is available to the general public for the price of a museum ticket, located in the heart of LA inside the Grand Central Market. They just had their grand opening today – so rush now and grab your tickets! Bring your friends, bring a date or just bring yourself.

TIP: Come looking your best and ready to play!  Think first date, your BFF’s birthday party, meeting the parents, a pricey restaurant, family photo, first day at a new job, or knowing someone planned a surprise party for you.  Better styling = better photos!

Here’s few of the photos that my friends and I took from the Scenario Studio.

Hope you enjoy,

Joy

PetPOP

Hi loves,

Have you all heard of PetPOP? It’s the first pet themed pop up museum for pet parents & animal lovers in Los Angeles! Although, I didn’t get a chance to bring my own fur baby with me. I had so much fun posing and taking photos at their different super cute photo opps below!

This animal friendly pop up museum is also amazing for date nights, girls night or even another way to spend some time with family and friends and make new memories. Dont miss out and visit them now before they close. At the very end of the experience, you’ll also get to meet adoptable super cute doggies that you can kiss, cuddle and take home with you from PawWorks. Make sure to pay them a visit and also find ways you can volunteer!

Unconditional Love

I know I’m a little late on my blog posts lately (sorry, it has been a crazy busy week) as I wanted to talk about one of girls’s favorite topics to talk about: love! ;P Have you ever been loved unconditionally by someone? The kind of love that loves you still when things get ugly, when you have stuff in your teeth, when you fight and cry but you know you’re going to be okay the next day, when you can fully trust the other person knowing there’s no malice in their heart and all they want is the best for you despite of your differences? It wasn’t until my late twenties that I realized (other than God who created this whole universe and my parents who treat me like a princess and the rest of my family who can’t really get rid of me, hehe) that my greatest relationships (so far) are my best friends.

When I truly thought about the things that I was looking for what an ideal relationship should consists of — there were some things that I knew were non negotiable such as: commitment, loyalty, trust, kindness, respect, honesty, the ability to be completely myself with another person and have lots of fun. With that said I also realized that one of the most important part is for me to be with people who will show love unconditionally and willingly —and accept that I will love them that way in return —and who aren’t afraid to stick around for the hard parts, who aren’t scared to talk about each other’s flaws, or plan a future with me or who will pick up the phone at 3 am because I’m having a nervous breakdown and I don’t think I can finish my school project that’s due at 8:30 in the morning.

Sometimes I’ve asked myself: isn’t our greatest relationship supposed to involve romance? Isn’t suppose to end in marriage like what the society expects out of us? But looking back on my life, my friends have been my constants – who have an unconditional love for me for years. Even when I’ve hit my lowest points, they’re the ones who have helped me come back up. The ones who never gave up on me and believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. The ones who’ve talked me out (and never stopped) #insertrollingeyesemoji of dating the guys who they think aren’t good enough for me. The ones that know when I deserve more when I clearly don’t see it and the ones who see the strength in me when I feel like nothing but a broken mess. They don’t worry about a “commitment” to our friendship – it just flows. They don’t look at my bad sides and make me feel bad for it – for the most part, we point them out to each other and discuss how can we be better as a person? They aren’t nice to me just to get something out of me; they’re nice to me because they care about me. They push and aspire me to be my best self because we are each other’s cheerleaders —without forcing each other to be someone we’re not. Last but not the least, I don’t have to compete for their attention or convince them to see my worth because they already know it. In all honestly, I’m lead to believe that your best friends are probably one of the strongest loves you’ll ever have because nobody is forcing them to love you, other than the fact that they already know too much about you! 😉

For this blog post I am actually wearing Secretly A Mermaid‘s newest set. Follow us on Instagram: @shopsecretlyamermaid My bestie and I started our own Etsy shop late last year in order to share our love for mermaids, dressing up and fashion. Speaking of unconditional love, I can say that our friendship is one of the primary examples of the existing greatest relationships that I have. Sometimes it feels like work because we actually work together even if we’re fighting… but in the end I still think it’s worth it because we love each other unconditionally and we are working towards a common goal and we don’t lose sight of that.

My hope is that if you haven’t found someone who loves you for all the beautiful, amazing mess that you are — is that you never give up. Hang on tight and spend time with the ones that already do. <3

XOXO,

Joy

Flowers Over Adulting

Happy September! Fall is near so I’ve decided to do my last summer blog post. For this look, I made a two piece – printed bandeau and a ruched skirt with a white cardigan. What do you guys think about this look? I’m going to miss all the colors that I got to play around with this summer. Although, I’m sad that summer is coming to an end, I’m also excited that fall and a new season is coming! Anyone else obsessed with pumpkin spice lattes, knee high socks, boots and coats? Because I am. I can’t wait to make and style fall outfits.

I was walking in DTLA a few days ago and my roommate and came across these flowers and I absolutely fell in love with them and had to take photos in front of them. I think one of the reasons why I love flowers so much despite of them being beautiful is the fact that if you think about it, they actually go through so much dirt and transition before they actually bloom. I’m sure if you took elementary science growing up, you learned how flowers come to life and now as an adult, I look back at this process and think that this is pretty much what adulthood looks like. Growing up, I’ve always been an optimist; that everything will just fall into place and although everything has, I also didn’t think adulting was going to be as difficult as it is now. However, everyday is a new day to start over, to take risks, to be scared but do it anyways, to create something new, to invest on yourself, on other people, to build new opportunities, to dream, to play, to love and to hope.

XOXO,

Joy

Facing Fears

Have you ever heard of Acrophobia? It is an extreme fear of heights. I’ve always had it since I can remember. Growing up, I never wanted to ride the ferris wheel or roller coasters with loops. On a random Tuesday morning, one of my friends invited me to go to Sky Space LA. It holds the tallest open-air observation deck in California and has a slide made out of glass where you can glide through the view from the 70th to the 69th floor of the U.S. Bank Tower. If you didn’t have a fear of heights, I’m sure you will be jumping with joy and will think this is so fun. Except I do but given the fact that I have gone skydiving before, I thought to myself this should be easy and I can do this so I went for it anyways.

Until I actually got there and seeing the view made my heart beat faster, feel nauseated, my hands sweat and felt like I was about fall for no reason or the glass was going to break… Here’s a video of me having a meltdown before I actually did it..

A few tips for people who actually want to try this…

  1. Just go with the flow and have fun.
  2. Do not have a mental break down.
  3. Do not try to stop yourself from sliding through the glass because you won’t only flip and land weird; you will also hurt your elbow and scratch yourself (at least I did).

Before you head to the 70th floor, you will go through the 54th floor where you will find cool exhibits to see/experience. One of my favorites was the Silhouette Wall, where pixels were created to reflect images based on body movements.

There’s also a really pretty wall that you can’t miss before you exit.

Of course, we had to take a picture!

What are your biggest fears? Have you ever tried facing them? I honestly thought after skydiving, I would be able to overcome my fear of heights and falling. I feel like the fear is still there and I’m not sure if it will ever go away but I definitely feel like I am more open to trying new things now… So I encourage you to face your fears. It gets easier. It may not look like it from the video but there’s a part of you inside that will be proud of yourself for doing things you never thought you could do before! 😉

Joy

Hope y’all had a great 4th of July! Independence Day is probably one of my favorite holidays and although each year, I normally just got to a BBQ at my friend’s house; this year my friends and I did something different and actually watched the fireworks at the Rosebowl. We parked at the parking lot and had a mini picnic and watched the fireworks from there. You have to pay $30 per car – which isn’t that bad if you go with your squad and you can just hang out all afternoon as you wait for the fireworks. There were so many pretty fireworks that my photos don’t do them justice at all. For this year’s independence day, I made a one piece bathing suit using red and blue knit fabrics with white stars on them. What do you think about this look and what did you do this fourth of July?

Joy

The long awaited night for Beyonce’s Formation World Tour finally arrived in Los Angeles yesterday. I decided to make a hanky slip dress inspired by the  color of the dress that she wore in her music video, “Hold Up.” I wanted to bring some hot sauce in my bag but I was afraid the security won’t let me in. Haha. I was fortunate enough to have one of my girl friends warn me that we weren’t allowed to any bring bags inside unless it’s clear and a size of a ziplock bag. A lot of people were upset that they weren’t fully warned about this. Walking in the stadium, there were a few protestors that has a “FORGIVE JAY-Z” and “EVERYBODY MAKES MISTAKES” signs. Thought this was pretty hilarious and the whole controversy between the Beyonce and Jay-Z cheating rumors has been actually working well for her album. I also noticed that Beyonce has gained a whole other range of followers that can relate to her album’s message of agony, betrayal and jealousy. Beyonce opened up her concert with the ever powerful song “Formation.” She sang a few more songs from her Lemonade album like “Daddy Lessons”, “Freedom”, “Don’t Hurt Yourself” and “Sorry”. Her visual album was also presented the whole night and she mixed a lot of her old songs together. One of my favorite scenes from her concert was when she stomped around, danced and passionately sang on stage with water.  I love that she ended her concert thanking God and her fans for everything that she has now. She also encouraged everyone to keep working hard for their dreams and that she was once like us and we could be where she’s at now if we keep striving for our goals. Last night was definitely a night to remember. I’m currently experiencing my Beyonce withdrawals as of now and yes, call me crazy but i may or may not be thinking of going to her Dodger Stadium Concert this fall.

Joy

Bloom where you are planted.

One of my favorite places to go to on a Saturday morning in DTLA other than the Fashion District is the Flower District. It is a six block floral marketplace, consisting of nearly 200 wholesale flower dealers located on Wall Street between 7th and 8th streets. It is a great place to buy flowers weekly for a decent amount of price or simply for special occasions.

The New Bohemian

It’s been hot in Los Angeles for the past few days.. And when it feels like summer, of course you gotta dress like summer! 😉 I recently made an off shoulder tribal print shift dress that I had so much fun making as much as wearing it. The colors are so vibrant and perfect for a good summer weather. Coming from social design background, I was one of those designers who didn’t just struggle designing with prints but also hated them. I’ve always felt like they all look the same to me. I used to admire my fellow designers so much and ask them “how do you do it?” because I can barely tell the difference. Now that I design for casual dresses, I surprisingly fell in love with prints as well. Picking prints is definitely all about you. How does this print represent you? How does it make you feel? I am currently in love with ethnic neon bohemian prints and dark floral grounds. I am planning to make more printed outfits the next few months so stay tuned for some inspirations! Here’s a mood board that I made below to help you see the new bohemian trends.

THE NEW BOHEMIAN BACKGROUND

Last Sunday, I had brunch at the Yellow House Cafe with a few girlfriends where we met up to plan upcoming new projects for our blogs, road trips, concerts, runs and events that we would like to be a part of this year. This is a really cute coffee/brunch place in Los Angeles where they have a really cute spacious patio to bring your lap tops and work. I took a few pictures inside the cafe where you can see how well coordinated the interior decoration is!

What do you think about ethnic prints? Hope this inspires you to be bold and wear them as much as you want. The brighter the colors are, the more fun it is!
