A few weeks before my summer trip in Asia, I went to the LA Fashion District and bought different fabrics that I can use to make some outfits for my trip. The moment that I laid eyes on this iridescent mermaid fabric material, I knew it was the one and I had to buy it for one of my bathing suits. For this look, I made a two piece set with a pleated bra top and scallop edge high waisted bottoms. I spent a whole day at Coral Island in Pattaya, Thailand. It was breathe taking and relaxing. I felt like I had the whole island to myself. One of the things I miss the most in Asia is being able to swim and go in their water. Where have you gone this summer? Do you have any upcoming trips you’re excited about?

Joy

Hope y’all had a great 4th of July! Independence Day is probably one of my favorite holidays and although each year, I normally just got to a BBQ at my friend’s house; this year my friends and I did something different and actually watched the fireworks at the Rosebowl. We parked at the parking lot and had a mini picnic and watched the fireworks from there. You have to pay $30 per car – which isn’t that bad if you go with your squad and you can just hang out all afternoon as you wait for the fireworks. There were so many pretty fireworks that my photos don’t do them justice at all. For this year’s independence day, I made a one piece bathing suit using red and blue knit fabrics with white stars on them. What do you think about this look and what did you do this fourth of July?

Joy

I like to tell myself that the reason why I love Disney so much is because I was deprived when I was younger. I didn’t grow up going to the happiest place on Earth. I grew up in the Philippines reading story books, watching Disney movies and dreaming what it’s like to be in Disneyland. My dream finally came true when I was 16 and now that I’m a young professional in my mid 20s, of course I had to be an Annual Passholder. My obsession with mermaids on the other hand, I don’t really have a justification why I love them so much or I never outgrew them. The Little Mermaid is obviously my favorite Disney Princess. Aside from her forever hair goals and amazing voice, I love her creativity, tenacity and strong willed personality. She doesn’t take “no” for an answer. She doesn’t just think about things but she makes things happen against all odds. Because of this, she became one of favorite cartoon characters growing up. I could relate with her in so many ways. Just like her, I don’t like being put in a box or going with the flow, being told what to do or cannot do, I like to be free, to be creative and to go in lots of adventures. This is just the beginning of my mermaid wardrobe. I will be designing and posting more mermaid inspired outfits, so stay tune! What do you think about mermaid fashion? Do you have a favorite Disney Princess and why?

Joy

One of my favorite places in the world is the beach. It’s just so peaceful and relaxing. I grew up living 15 mins from the beach in Oxnard and when I was younger, I didn’t take advantage of living so close to it. But now that craziness and business of adulthood has finally arrived, I could use a simple getaway here and there. For this look, I made a colorful long maxi see through dress that can easily be worn on top of a bathing suit – perfect for summer weather. I’ll probably wear this dress multiple times for the next few months.  Anyone else super excited that summer is finally here?

As summer approaches, I had to haunt the infamous Victoria Beach in Orange County. For this shoot, I made a baby doll with a deep V slip dress with ruffles. What do you think about this look? Do you have your summer outfits yet?

Last weekend, my girlfriends and I decided to go to Pismo Beach and visit Hearst Castle. Although, we wish we were at Coachella; we wanted to do something different this year. My best friend, partner in most crimes and sister from another mother, Jessicka and I decided to do a photoshoot in Hearst Castle since we both designed our dresses, share the love for fashion, dressing up, going on lots of adventures, laughing and blogging. We both used printed medallion fabrics. I made a high low, long sleeve, V-neck dress and she made a bell sleeve, lace up shift dress. We had so much fun doing this shoot and this may be just the beginning of our many duo photoshoots together! If you haven’t checked out her cute little blog, you should do so at https://fashionplayhouse.wordpress.com What do you think of these looks? If you would like to see us in other themed outfits, definitely let us know! 😉

Lace Is The New Black

I’ve had a love affair with lace for the longest time I can remember. I just love how romantic it is, effortless, playful and fun it can be. Lace is something you can wear all year round — from holiday parties to summer festivals. I made a see through black lace dress with a front cut out and ruffle hem.

The New Bohemian

It’s been hot in Los Angeles for the past few days.. And when it feels like summer, of course you gotta dress like summer! 😉 I recently made an off shoulder tribal print shift dress that I had so much fun making as much as wearing it. The colors are so vibrant and perfect for a good summer weather. Coming from social design background, I was one of those designers who didn’t just struggle designing with prints but also hated them. I’ve always felt like they all look the same to me. I used to admire my fellow designers so much and ask them “how do you do it?” because I can barely tell the difference. Now that I design for casual dresses, I surprisingly fell in love with prints as well. Picking prints is definitely all about you. How does this print represent you? How does it make you feel? I am currently in love with ethnic neon bohemian prints and dark floral grounds. I am planning to make more printed outfits the next few months so stay tuned for some inspirations! Here’s a mood board that I made below to help you see the new bohemian trends.

THE NEW BOHEMIAN BACKGROUND

Last Sunday, I had brunch at the Yellow House Cafe with a few girlfriends where we met up to plan upcoming new projects for our blogs, road trips, concerts, runs and events that we would like to be a part of this year. This is a really cute coffee/brunch place in Los Angeles where they have a really cute spacious patio to bring your lap tops and work. I took a few pictures inside the cafe where you can see how well coordinated the interior decoration is!

What do you think about ethnic prints? Hope this inspires you to be bold and wear them as much as you want. The brighter the colors are, the more fun it is!

The pier house
